Stawal

Stawal is used to check the stability of cantilever (Fixed Earth) or propped (Free Earth) retaining walls. The program determines the penetration required to prevent rotational stability of the wall using the limiting values of active and passive pressure. It also calculates the bending moments and shear forces occurring in the wall at the limiting condition. In the Free Earth analysis the strut force is calculated.

Program features include:

  • graphical data entry allows even the most complex problem to be specified quickly and efficiently
  • the wall is tested for rotational stability about the base (Free) or prop (Fixed)
  • soil profiles are represented by a series of horizontal soil strata that can be different on each side of the wall
  • water pressures may be specified hydrostatically or piezometrically
  • strut force can be added at any level on the wall and can act in a positive direction (restraining the wall) or a negative direction (pulling the wall over)
  • surcharges can be strip loads of limited extent or uniformly distributed loads.
