More and more clients are demanding that you check their developments for footfall induced vibration. But how do you check the accelerations under sensitive laboratory equipment from someone walking nearby? How can you make the operating theatre achieve the stringent response requirements without just adding more and more mass? What do you do about staircases or bridges? This Arup Associates bridge was shortlisted from 109 entries in the RIBA competition for an iconic footbridge over the Sheffield Parkway.

What's new in GSA?
Since the last newsletter, we have released GSA 8.3. While the complete list would fill this newsletter and more, here are just a few of the highlights:
- Display storey drifts, forces, and displacements options in the chart views
- Show steel design effective lengths in output views and the object viewer
- Include steel design effective lengths in the printed output
- Display 2D angle and warp checks in the graphical view
- Create 3D PDFs of your model
- Double click on something in the graphical view to edit it
- Move and copy Areas and Regions
- Intelligent dragging of nodes to automatically collapse coincident ones or create joints
- Export in ASAS format
- Revit Structure 2009 support
- Footfall vibration analysis to SCI P354

ADC with latest Hong Kong Code of Practice
The latest version of ADC 8.1 now includes concrete design to the Hong Kong Code of Practice 2004 (AMD1 2007). It has also been pre-accepted by the Hong Kong Building Department.

Tunset - 3D Graphical Representation of Soil Displacements
The latest release of Tunset, version 18.4, includes three dimensional graphics. These allow complex geometries of components and results to be viewed, enhancing a client's understanding of a project, providing immediate visual identification of data input errors and aiding the engineer in the interpretation of results.

Tunset will soon be able to import DXF files that contain tunnel and building geometries, and output CSV files of displacement contours and building damage results, for easy import into other graphical programs. These features are currently being beta tested prior to release in December 2008.
