New Teviot Footbridge

Case Study

Crossing the Teviot in a single span, the new Teviot footbridge provides a direct and safe link between the high street and town centre car park in Hawick. The cycle and pedestrian crossing, the only cable stayed bridge in the Borders, forms part of the town centre's regeneration program.

Typical CADrebar Detail

The 40m span, 19.3m high mast, stainless steel cabling and North abutment, which is integral with the mast foundation, were designed and detailed by Gifford, whilst the South abutment and ramps were designed and detailed by the client, Scottish Borders Council. The £560k steel bridge was then fabricated by T.A. Kirkpatrick and built by contractor Border Construction.

Oasys CADrebar was an extremely useful tool for Gifford which allowed them to detail the project efficiently and accurately. As Chris Bargent of Gifford pointed out, 'We use CADrebar to save time and minimise mistakes. The reason we chose CADrebar was because of its simplicity and flexibility, it doesn't try to be too clever which makes for a very quick learning curve. We can bring in contract technicians and don't need to ask for particular software experience, a quick demonstration of CADrebar and they can be up and detailing within hours. The same goes for training and developing junior technicians.'
